Integration Point
An Integration Point is a named seam in the Proof Protocol test harness, such as the Issuer, the Time Anchor or the Proof Witness, that one party's component plugs into. Conformance is claimed per Integration Point, never to a specification as a whole.
Why seams
In practice every part of a test is supplied by someone different: agent platforms, network controls, witness and sensor providers, time and registry services. Naming each seam says what a component there must do, what it must emit, and which seams one party may never hold at once.
Dead Canary Protocol seams (PP-SPEC-077)
| ID | Seam | Job |
|---|---|---|
| IP-1 | Issuer / Canary Generator | Build, commit and reveal canaries; hold labels |
| IP-2 | Time Anchor | Unpredictable public pulses no party controls |
| IP-3 | Release Driver | Deliver each canary unmodified, never seeing labels |
| IP-4 | Ingress Observer | Passively record delivery |
| IP-5 | Fingerprint Capture | Fingerprint the device and controls independently of the Provider |
| IP-6 | Proof Witness | Observe Effect Points; commit records before reveal; publish coverage map |
| IP-7 | Liveness Prober | Detect black holes over paths that avoid the control |
| IP-8 | Adjudicator | Turn records into outcomes, Units of Proof and rates |
| IP-9 | Registry | Append-only public record |
| IP-10 | Signer / Key Custody | Sign and publish verification keys |
Jailed Canary Protocol seams (PP-SPEC-078)
IP-J1 Policy Provider (Declared Policy), IP-J2 Bait Generator, IP-J3 AUT Adapter, IP-J4 Warden, IP-J5 Cell Provider (cells), IP-J6 Twin and Decoy Provider (service twins), IP-J7 Proof Witness, IP-J8 Adjudicator, IP-J9 Kill Switch, IP-J10 Escape Test Provider (Escape Test Suite).
Coal Mine Protocol seams (PP-SPEC-079)
IP-M1 Commissioning Party, IP-M2 Environment Provider, IP-M3 Claim Sheet Intake, IP-M4 Operational Meter, IP-M5 Record Assembler.
The rules
- Named conformance. A claim names its seams, in the form
PP-SPEC-077 IP-6orPP-SPEC-078 IP-J4, with the specification version. “Jail Mode conformant” without seam identifiers is not a conformance claim. - Proof, not opinions. Components emit records. Only the Adjudicator emits outcomes, verdicts or rates.
- Blindness. Only the Issuer holds labels before reveal.
- Separation. The Issuer and the Proof Witness are different parties. The Witness is never the Provider. The Time Anchor holds no other seam. The Provider never holds IP-1, IP-3, IP-5, IP-6, IP-7 or IP-9. In jail mode the Agent Provider never holds IP-J2, IP-J4, IP-J5, IP-J6, IP-J7 or IP-J8, the Warden operator never holds IP-J7, and the Kill Switch is run by someone other than the Warden operator.
- The thing under test has no seam. It is not modified to participate and cannot detect that the seams exist.
- Every seam’s occupant is published in advance in the Interface Manifest.
