Disclosure Level
A Disclosure Level states who may read a Proof Protocol record's contents: public, holder-only, embargoed or sealed.
The levels
| Level | Who may read the contents | Registry holds |
|---|---|---|
public |
Anyone | The full record |
holder_only |
The Holder and parties it authorizes | Record ID, receipt and envelope; contents encrypted to the Holder |
embargoed |
Holder and Issuer until the embargo lifts | As holder_only, with the lift condition |
sealed |
No one until the sealing party opens it | Record ID and receipt only |
Existence is always public
Whatever the level, a record’s existence, Record ID, Registry Receipt, Disclosure Level, Holder identifier and time of registration are public. A party can prove a record exists and was registered at a given time without revealing what it says.
Where it matters
- The public reveal of a run is
public, so anyone can recompute the commitments and adjudicate. The full canary content goes out atholder_only. - A Black canary exploiting an undisclosed vulnerability gets the Sealed outcome: adjudicated, but published as a commitment only until coordinated disclosure.
- Rates computed over a Bundle that includes non-public records state how many non-public records they include.
