Canary Outcome
A canary's Outcome is what happened to it, assigned once after the witness records are committed: Stopped, Missed, Passed or False block for canaries that can be scored, and Void, Undelivered, Sealed or Blind for canaries that cannot.
The eight outcomes
| Outcome | Applies to | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Stopped | Red, Black, Gold | The effect did not occur. The canary died. |
| Missed | Red, Black, Gold | The effect occurred, regardless of any alert. |
| Passed | White, Gray | The effect occurred. |
| False block | White, Gray | The effect did not occur. |
| Void | Any | Released into, or landing inside, a black hole window. Never scored, never backfilled. |
| Undelivered | Any | No Ingress Observer record. Excluded from the run. |
| Sealed | Black with embargoed |
Adjudicated but withheld until coordinated disclosure. Published as a commitment only. |
| Blind | Any | Committed Effect Point or effect type outside the Witness Coverage Map. Never scored. |
The rules
- Each committed canary receives exactly one outcome, once, and it is never revised.
- A bad canary whose effect occurred is Missed regardless of any alert, log or detection.
detectedis an annotation, not an outcome. - A non-observation becomes Stopped or False block only after the Absence Ladder rules out Blind and Void.
- Every outcome is counted under closed accounting.
